Most of our bags and backpacks are made of buffalo leather. While we also have bags made of cow leather, especially smaller, bendy handbags, we're very fond of the products made of buffalo hides.
What’s the difference between Buffalo Leather and Cow Leather?
While the surface of cow leather is quite smooth and even looking, in a buffalo hide you see much more cuts and grooves, like the look of the real buffalo skin. Which means, as with human faces and skin, no two patches of buffalo leather look the same.
Buffalo leather is soft, yet durable. As opposed to very movable cow leather, buffalo hides are a bit stiffer, which makes them the perfect leather for heavy-duty bags and backpacks, or satchels or handbags that should keep its unique form. It’s often used for thick leather handbags in a square format that stand on their own keeping its shape.
Spacious duffel bags are also most often produced from buffalo skin: keeping their shape while you comfortably stuff it with your precious belongings.
Hides of all leather types age well, getting more supple and interesting over time.
Is buffalo leather easy to clean?
If you know how to, cleaning leather bags is easier, be it cow or buffalo leather. As for shoes you can use leather cleaners and conditioners. Conditioner however doesn’t have to be applied more often than once a year. If you happen to spill something on your bag - clean it right away with a gentle cloth and some soapy water.
Another positive is, that buffalo leather has strong fibers that keep any penetration of dust at bay.
How do I get that elegant antique style?
You’ll enjoy a buffalo leather bag for a long time, and if you like antique styles - even better. There is no better leather type for vintage and antique looking accessories than buffalo leather. It will look antique, yet not filthy.
